Robotic Welding of Small Parts with a Techman Cobot
Context
problem
When welding small parts for crane construction, the main challenge is the combination of takt time, repeatability, and flexible part feeding. The client Lit Manufacturing Kft (Pécs, Hungary) produces small components with simple geometry but in larger series. Manual welding is slow, requires constant concentration, and makes it difficult to maintain a stable takt time. In addition, the need for special positioning fixtures increases cost and complicates changeovers. A system is needed that ensures high repeatability, an almost continuous process, and greater freedom in how parts are presented.
Approach
Solution
Bullitt Robotics developed a compact robotic welding system with a Techman collaborative robot, dedicated to small crane components. The built-in 2D camera detects and welds randomly placed parts without the need for complex positioning fixtures. The system operates on two stations – while the robot is welding on one side, the operator prepares the next parts on the other, enabling an almost continuous process. The Techman collaborative platform combines easy programming with safe human–robot interaction, shortening commissioning time and increasing overall productivity.
Almost continuous welding process
Two-station operation minimises idle time and delivers significantly higher productivity compared to a fully manual process.
Flexible positioning without complex fixtures
The built-in 2D camera recognises randomly positioned parts and enables welding without expensive, complex jigs.
High repeatability and safe collaboration
The Techman cobot ensures a stable, repeatable process and safe human–robot collaboration, supporting consistently high quality.
